Getty photographer visits PrEPVacc site at Masaka

Photojournalist Luke Dray, shooting for Getty Images, visited the Masaka site of the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit on 16 and 17 March to report what it is like to take part in the PrEPVacc study.

During his two day visit, hosted by Vincent Basajja, Community Liaison Officer, Luke met 10 new participants as they were enrolled in the study and received their first vaccinations, engaged in a retention meeting for existing participants, and visited the labs at Masaka.

He also met with people living and working in one of the communities that PrEPVacc works with, at Lambu Landing on Lake Victoria, and interviewed Trial Director Dr Eugene Ruzagira and saw him discussing the trial with participants.

Tom Miller, PrEPVacc Communications and Dissemination Lead, said: “Thanks to the support and involvement of our new, existing and potential study participants Luke has created a wonderful record of their commitment and has provided vivid insight into what it is like to take part in an HIV prevention study. Thank you to everyone who took part and to Luke for bringing his talents to report on our activities.“
