PrEPVacc COVID-19 Update - April 2020

Eugene Ruzagira, PrEPVacc Trial Director provided the following update to study colleagues on 15 April:

“Cases of COVID-19 have been identified in all of the countries participating in PrEPVacc, and each country has travel restrictions and measures in place to restrict the spread of infections.

As a consequence, the current situation for PrEPVacc is:

  • Recruitment to the PrEPVacc Registration Cohort is paused at all sites; follow-ups continue but only where permitted by national guidelines

  • The potential timing for a start of the vaccine trial will be evaluated in June

  • The Consortium meeting, planned for 29 June – 1 July in Durban, South Africa, is postponed and a new date will be announced once the situation becomes clear.

In the meantime I hope that you and your families stay safe and you do what you can to help your communities to stay safe. If you are seeking general guidance on what to do to protect yourself and your community, the WHO website provides comprehensive information, and this video of simple COVID-19 messages for communities may be useful to share.”
