Tanzania PrEPVacc site assessment visits completed
PrEPVacc’s internal site assessment programme concluded in January 2020 with visits to the Tanzania sites - NIMR-MMRC, Mbeya, and MUHAS, Dar es Salaam.
Site Assessment visits are used to examine a site's capacity to take part in PrEPVacc, and check that its facilities, equipment, systems, people and procedures, are ready to begin the main trial.
A visit will look at a wide range of site areas - clinical, pharmacy and laboratory facilities, its data management systems, as well as checking on staff qualifications and training, and its regulatory and community activities programme.
The site inspection team comprises experts from across PrEPVacc, drawing in particular on expertise from IAVI, EuroVacc Foundation and its senior trial management team members.
NIMR-MMRC Principal Investigator for PrEPVacc, Dr Lucas Maganga said: "Site assessment visits are a searching test for every site but they're essential to help us get ready and be in the best possible shape to make a success of PrEPVacc for all of our participants."
PrEPVacc has now concluded its site assessment programme after visits in 2019 to INS in Maputo, Mozambique; SAMRC in Durban, South Africa; and MRC/UVRI & LSHTM in Masaka, Uganda.
